Not sure if someone asked that already but I've been job hunting under the impression that schools will be allowed to hire people who have fallen under amnesty, and it will then be possible to apply for a work permit. Since that is not mentioned in the proposal at all, does that mean this possibility is off the table? Or is it simply too soon to tell because the definite version hasn't been published?

Sure. I'm also going to ask about applying for an extension based on marriage to a Thai same-sex partner given that the Civil Union Act has passed, but I'm not very optimistic.

Same Sex marriages are NOT written into the immigration act and therefore not recognized as a valid reason to get an extension at this time :(

Yeah I know strange how being gay can still kick you in the, er, behind in the 21st century. I've been with my partner for 16 years so obviously we'll have to find a way. I'll ask immigration a bunch of things

They aren't going to issue an extension of stay based on marriage to same sex partnerships :( If they did, that would have made the news, and we would have posted it as an announcement.

But let us know what you find out anyway.

Yeah I think you're right but once I'm there I might ask a whole bunch of stuff to get clarity. All Thais and IOs I ever talked to about this topic think gender differentiation is obsolete, and I've never experienced homophobia here, so who knows, maybe they honor the extra level of difficulty.

Before Covid people on job hunt found a job, left the country applied for the Non Immigrant B visa at a Thai Consulate and the company applied for the Work Permit at the Ministry of Labor.

Or the company could meet the requirements of the Immigration Office to convert a valid tourist visa, visa exempt entry or the 30 day Extension of Stay on these into the Non Immigrant B visa.

There are rumors that Immigration will allow people on overstay due to covid to convert into a Non Immigrant Visa, but time will tell.
