Hi everyone, I currently have an ed visa but I need to get a new passport because my current one is about to expire. Is there any way to "transfer" my ed visa from old passport to new one ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You cannot directly transfer your ED visa from an old passport to a new one. However, when you get your new passport, it is recommended to obtain a letter from the passport authority to take to the immigration office. You can show both your old and new passports, along with the letter and any required re-entry permits, to facilitate the transfer of your entry stamp or visa extension to your new passport.
Thanks for the answer Brandon. I'll be leaving Thailand though to get the new passport (cannot get it at local embassy). So in that case, it show both passports, letter and re entry permit to them and they will put the ed visa extension in new passport?
you'll need to buy a re-entry permit before leaving.
But more importantly is if your country makes your old passport invalid when you renew. If that's the case you won't be able to re-enter because your visa/extension will be invalid because it's in an invalid passport.
You cannot transfer a visa. But you should receive a letter with your new passport that you can take to immigration along with both passports. They can use this to transfer your entry stamp or extension to your new passport.
