Thank you for all the information provided on this page, very useful. 

If I was to apply for the SETV for 30 days on arrival, would I be able to apply for an additional 60 days on arrival, or do I need to wait until a later time to apply for an extra 30 days (to a total of 90 days).

I am trying to figure this out before I buy a plane ticket, and book a hotel.

Thank you all for the responses. I have reviewed the link for the Electronic Visa, and I have some concerns.

First it does not say how long it takes for the application process to be completed, or how far in advanced I should apply?

Second, it says after the 60 days I can request an extension under the "discretion" of the immigration officer, so if the officer is having a bad day I get the extension denied? Under what basis would a 30 day extension get denied. It is just very uncertain.

dial back the paranoia a notch or three. I don't know anyone who qualifies for a 30 day extension whose been denied one, so get that out of your mind. 🙂

AND as far as how long it takes to get approved, that's totally up to how thoroughly you fill out the application, upload the required documentation, etc. It's not a race, take your time, get it right, and you'll get approved in a few days.

A single entry tourist visa is valid for 3 months from the date it's issued <- meaning you have three months to ENTER thailand on it and get stamped in for 60 days. so you can apply quite early and still have no issues entering thailand on the visa and getting stamped in for 60 days

You’re using “on arrival” in a confusing way. There’s something called “visa on arrival” which isn’t what you’re looking for, so make sure you don’t get confused.

A SETV lasts 60 days and then

*****

+ days after entering the country you can apply for an extension. That’ll add 30 days to the total, regardless of when you ask for it.
