TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can cancel your old work permit and apply for a new one without leaving Thailand, provided you have all the necessary documents from your new employer. However, keep in mind that if you are on a visa linked to your previous employer, this may complicate your situation. You must ensure your visa status allows for this process, as mentioned concerns about the visa name match and requirements for Extensions of Stay may impact your ability to obtain a new work permit.
If you cancel the Extension of Stay and you apply for a new Extension of Stay but can not meet the requirements you get the stamp: Application of Extension of Stay is not approved and 7 days to leave the country. You can not use these 7 days to apply again, you must leave.

If you stay on a Visa and the name of your company is mentioned on this visa or on an Extension of Stay you can not use these to get a new work permit.

Work Permit is from the Ministry of Labor, you can cancel and get new one. Problem is only how do you stay inside Thailand? Is this on a Visa and you do border runs every 90 days or on an Extension of Stay and report at Immigrant every 90 days.?
In that case maybe you can ask to immigration office. I'm not sure, but you may be able to cancel work permit and extension and apply extension with valid documents from new employer, not like just extension like most of the cases lack of documents. I haven't read any report here, I heard personally one case that someone could switch employers without leaving when old and new employers working closely and accordingly. Still it's a while back.
I guess it's worth to ask Immigration and MOL if you need.
Yes, I know we have to pay 1900 baht for the extension, actually I was asking for my friend, his old employer and new employer are friends, new employer wants him to teach in his school as he doesnt have any English teacher. So the both employers are ready to give any kind of documents.

Sandeep Sandy, There are no free and automatic 7 days granted when you cancel extension.
