TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can arrive in Thailand from Sydney on a one-way ticket with a non-immigrant O-A visa based on retirement. However, it's advisable to check with your airline as they might verify the visa at check-in. Also, make sure to check the stamp in your passport upon arrival, ensuring it reflects your one-year admission to stay.

We fly here regularly, from the UK, with a return ticket for several months in advance. They always ask about it. We just say there is an annual visa in the passports, which they just glance at, and all is fine. Had the same thing with a one way ticket from Penang a couple of weeks ago. No problem.
