This may be a dumb question but, I’m an American currently in Phuket, will I be able to apply for a 6 month tourist visa while here in Thailand at immigration or do I need to be in the US (or possibly just go to a neighboring country?) thanks in advance! 👍🏽

As of right now, the borders are closed and the consulates or embassies are not selling visas. I recommend going on amnesty and staying on amnesty until new information is released.

You could go to a neighbouring country and apply for a single entry tourist visa.

But that is out of the window at the moment as borders are.closed.

You apply for the 6 months Multiple Entry Tourist Visa in the country where you have residency.

There are two types of tourist visas. One is a single entry visa that you can obtain anywhere. That is good for 60 days and can be extended for a total of 90 days before you have to leave.

The other is a multiple-entry tourist visa. Also good for 60-days but can be extended for a total of 90-days

However you can leave after 90-days and re-enter and start a new 60-days.

You can obtain a single-entry in most neighboring countries. The multiple-entry is pretty much only available in your country of legal residence.

At the moment, nobody knows what the situation will look like after the amnesty period ends.

Right now, you would likely not be able to re-enter. And you would need special permission that which is unlikely for a tourist visa.

When the amnesty ends, most folks will need to leave and it is unclear whether or not they would have a way to come back in until Thailand normalizes tourism entries.

If you country of residence is Thailand, you do not need a tourist visa to be inside Thailand. But thanks to explain the difference

I got used to that, people do not like the Thai immigration act and the rules and regulations of the Royal Thai Police Immigration Bureau,

But somehow they love to stay inside Thailand,
