Just leaving Immigration at Chaeng Wathana now to get the final 11 months of the 1 year marriage visa.
I was surprised that when they asked me for a bankbook showing the THB 400,000 OR a work permit.
Is it the case that a work permit will suffice? I asked them on the spot and they said yes, but... Always best to double check. ;-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of obtaining a one-year marriage visa extension in Thailand, specifically addressing the requirement for financial proof. It mentions that a work permit can suffice instead of showing a bankbook with THB 400,000, according to an immigration official's statement. A comment clarifies that this is because the visa can be supported either by showing banked money or demonstrating monthly income through a work permit.
that's because you either are using banked money or 40K baht a month in income to get the extension and IF you're using income method and work inside thailand showing them the work permit ticks that box. Otherwise you update your bank book and show the balance the date you get the under consideration stamp changed to your extension stamp.
That's been a policy for quite a number of years now
Thank you. Seems I have been a fool to keep the 400,000 locked away all these years then. On the other hand, it's good to have it now I'm this time of Covid crisis. Thanks for the quick feedback. Gotta get myself permanent residency so I can skip all this.
