To those nearby and want peace of mind like me, I closed mine and was in and out in 10 minutes.

They dug through a giant stack of applications, pulled mine out, and gave me the other half. Very easy.

Same exact situation, but my visa expires Saturday. Will be at Samui immigration first thing, letter and email in hand. Will provide an update on how it goes.
